Competition for CompSci residential summer school in UK

announcements

#1

Immerse Education, a company that run residential summer school programmes in the UK, are offering students from ISL the chance to win a free scholarship to a two week summer programme. (Basically it’s a way for them to get schools to advertise their programmes for them…). It works like this: If the school gets at least 10 students to enter the competition, the school then judges the best entry and nominates that one entry to compete against all the other top entries from other schools entering the competition. The competition involves writing a 500 word response to the pre-set question: Why should young people be interested in technology and how can it benefit society?’.

If you are interested in entering the competition, please let me know this week. As indicated above, we need a minimum of 10 students who plan to enter before there is any point in proceeding any further. So as to allow you at least two weeks to write entry essays, we need to determine if we have 10 students intending to enter as soon as possible.

Prizes:

  • Top prize: Winning essays will be awarded with 100% scholarships covering the participation for an Immerse technology programme of your choice.
  • Runners-up: Essays that are awarded runner-up prizes will be offered a partial scholarship of up to 75% of the participation fee for an Immerse technology programme of your choice.
  • Schools: Winning entries for the schools entry will be awarded with a 70% scholarship covering the participation for an Immerse technology programme of the student’s choice. This student will also be awarded a £50 Amazon voucher.

Entry information:

  • Grammar/Spellcheck: British English must be used. Your essay should be checked for spelling and grammar before submitting.
  • Distribution: All winning entries will be shared on the Immerse Education website, and in Immerse marketing materials, including social media. Immerse Education may also publish non-winning entries.
  • Editing: Articles can be edited by Immerse Education at their discretion.
  • Word count: 500 words (+/- 10%)
  • Content: The essay question is pre-set but broad and your answer should reflect your interest in technology. Inappropriate language, or content that might discriminate or cause offence will result in your withdrawal from the competition.
  • URLs: Hyperlinks to external and internal URLs are highly recommended to reference any research completed.
  • Entries: One entry per person.
